The month before Spore went on sale last September, its creator, Will Wright, said the triple-platinum game might expand into films. And though the famed designer has since left Electronic Arts, the Spore movie idea apparently lived on. Today, Variety reports that 20th Century Fox is indeed making a computer-generated movie based on the evolution-civilization-space exploration sim.

Latest firmware causing problems for some gamers; Nintendo points to modified consoles as the culprit, pledges to repair affected unmodified systems for free.



This generation of consoles has seen firmware updates become frequent and routine. Nearly as commonplace have been the post-patch gamer complaints that the latest update has rendered their systems inoperable.

PSP Go launch accompanied by first PSP Minis, debuts of PixelJunk Monsters, Thexder Neo, sales on Puzzle Quest, Prinny, and more; full list and price breakdown inside.



Sony launched the PSP Go today, marking the first time a major console maker has released a system entirely dependent on digital distribution. To ensure that early adopters of the $249 system have something to play on it, the company also gave its online PlayStation Network storefront a major injection of new and catalog releases. Today's update boasts more than 100 titles in all, including the first PSP Minis, Gran Turismo PSP, MotorStorm Arctic Edge, and new downloadable exclusives like PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe and Thexder Neo.

Stand-alone follow-up for Capcom fighter to feature "about eight" new and returning characters, more ultra combos, enhanced online play.


Street Fighter IV is ready for round two. When Capcom's flagship fighting franchise returned from relative dormancy earlier this year, it was critically lauded for faithfully recapturing much of what made its predecessors great. Capcom today announced it will be keeping to another of the series' traditions, the stand-alone revamp.

Although Left 4 Dead 2's launch is less than two months away, its original game got its second batch of downloadable content today. Titled Crash Course, the DLC is set between the No Mercy and Death Toll maps found in the original game and accommodates single-player, cooperative, and competitive action. According to developer Valve Software, the map should take just 30 minutes to complete, but it will add new locations, new dialogue, and an "explosive finale."

While Ryu is riding high in GameSpot's Greatest Game Hero competition--having made it to the quarterfinals--he may soon have a new challenger. A teaser video has been posted on Capcom's Japanese site under a section marked "newwarrior," indicating that it will be updated at 5 p.m. JST tomorrow (9 a.m. BST, 1 a.m. PDT).

[UPDATE] Previously purchased disc-based games won’t be playable on Sony’s new handheld due to "legal and technical reasons"; no PSP Go Rewards program in NA.



Existing PSP owners hoping to pick up a PSP Go and transfer their existing UMD games to the handheld are going to be out of luck--Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Sony Computer Entertainment America have confirmed that there will be no way to transfer existing UMD purchases to the new download-only PSP Go.

"We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time," a Sony representative told GameSpot.

TGS 09: Series creator Hideo Kojima shows off new trailer for upcoming PSP installment in franchise, details storyline and Japanese-language voice cast.

One of Konami's main titles at this year's Tokyo Game Show was Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP. As has been the case for nearly every other installment in the Metal Gear franchise, series creator Hideo Kojima took to the stage to talk in-depth about his latest creation.
