Sony has drawn flack for the PlayStation 3's sticker tag from the moment the top-tier console's $599 price was announced in 2006. And while Sony has released an array of hardware configurations to bring down the price, the PS3 consistently scores the bronze in the US' three-way current-generation console race. Last week, Activision ratcheted the price war rhetoric up a notch, threatening to drop support for the PS3 and PSP as early as 2010 if Sony doesn't enact a price reduction for its flagship console. Currently, the cheapest PS3 hardware SKU is the 80GB model, which was introduced during E3 2008.

Industry-tracking NPD Group reveals women flocking to Wii, hardcore gaming on decline, online gaming stagnate.



According to a Nielsen Company study last April, almost 50 percent of all PC gamers are female, with hit PC titles like The Sims played primarily by women. The latest Sims iteration, The Sims 3, sold more than 1.4 million copies a week after its release, presumably bolstered by that aforementioned demographic. However, a new study by the NPD Group shows that female gamers branch well beyond the PC platform and now constitute more than a quarter of all console video gamers.

In an interview with the Seattle Times via Kotaku, Bungie Studio Head Harold Ryan dropped a bombshell. The upcoming Halo prequel, Halo: Reach, could be compatible with Project Natal.

"I absolutely think [Halo:] Reach could be enabled with it," Howard told the Times.

This is not confirmation that Halo: Reach will use Natal, just that Bungie is giving it consideration. Even if Reach uses Natal technology, it doesn't mean the entire game needs to be controller free. Natal could be used simply to enhance the experience rather than strip it completely of the standard Xbox 360 controller.
