Sony Corp. CEO Sir Howard Stringer brands third-party publisher's comments as "noise," SCEA CEO Jack Tretton says other consoles don't deliver the same value.



Ever since the PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, third-party publishers have been grumbling that it is too expensive. That dissatisfaction came to a head last month, when the world's largest third-party publisher publicly threatened to discontinue support of the costly-to-develop-for platform, which lags behind the rival Wii and Xbox 360 in terms of market share.

EA UK's Twitter feed touts banner headline officially revealing long-rumored next installment in EALA RTS series.



This morning, the UK office of Electronic Arts posted a banner headline via its private Twitter feed, which is open only to members of the games press. The 105-character tweet speaks for itself: "EA_UK_PR New release: EA LOS ANGELES ANNOUNCES THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMAND & CONQUER 4 http://bit.ly/LOk6R." The compressed link, however, does not speak for anything, leading merely to the Electronic Arts press site where the most recent announcement is for the forthcoming Fight Night Round 4 downloadable content.

Series creator Ed Boon laments apparent death of downloadable characters for crossover fighter, releases teaser of what could have been.



Gamers hoping for more Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe crossover chaos suffered another blow courtesy of developer Ed Boon's Twitter page this week. After confirming last month that he was working on a superhero-free, fatality-fueled Mortal Kombat 9, the series creator yesterday closed the door on the possibility of downloadable content for last year's comic book crossover.

Though the more streamlined, UMD-less PSP Go was revealed just over a month ago at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, reports of Sony's next handheld are already sprouting up. Case in point: a report today on Eurogamer.es, which claims to have uncovered the processor at the heart of the PSP platform's successor, the PSP2. (Completely speculative concept art pictured--no form factor has been revealed.)
