Today Ubisoft announces it will bring publishing phenomenon Where's Waldo? to life in a new interactive adventure video game titled "Where's Waldo? The Fantastic Journey." Created by Ludia Inc., "Where's Waldo? The Fantastic Journey" is an original interactive adventure for the whole family, as players scour the virtual globe in search of Waldo, his friends and other hidden objects. The game will be available for the Wii system from Nintendo, the Nintendo DS system, Windows-based PC and Mac and sold at North American retailers in September 2009.

"Where's Waldo? has been a cultural phenomenon for more than 20 years, with fans of all ages on the hunt for the elusive world traveler in the red-and-white striped shirt. The intermittent efforts of the proprietor of Superannutation to sift through the slurry of often-unreliable information on the Internet has yielded another data diamond. The blog has posted a link to a July 17 US Patent and Trademark Office filing by Microsoft for the term "343 Industries" for use with "computer programs, namely, game software for use on computers and video." Other than Microsoft's address and attorney of record, no other information was given.

Guitar Hero publisher seeks to fill some 20 jobs for "successful owned IP" at San Mateo, California, dev house.



The San Francisco Bay Area is home to a number of game-development companies, but perhaps the most dominant force in the area is Electronic Arts. The publishing powerhouse maintains its headquarters in Redwood City, California, some 20 miles south of San Francisco proper. The site also plays home to some of EA's more prominent developers, such as Dead Space creators Visceral Games.

Shane Kim says that mobile plans for its gaming division still coming, but have taken a backseat to other pursuits such as Project Natal.



Shortly before the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, rumors surfaced that Microsoft was on the verge of announcing the ZuneX. The ZuneX was purported to be a gaming handheld that integrated with Xbox Live Arcade and "ZuneX originals" as well as featured mobile-phone capabilities. That's a marked contrast from the current-generation, which offers only a half-dozen games despite promises of titles that would be transferable from the Xbox 360.

Activision and Treyarch have had no problems reenlisting gamers to take part in online skirmishing for Call of Duty: World at War, which sold 11 million units globally during its first seven months. World at War's Map Pack 1 and Map Pack 2 multiplayer add-ons both went platinum during their debut weekends on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, with the first extension having subsequently achieved sales of 2 million units.
