Among the night-vision goggles, premium DJ controllers, and actually locking lockers,
this holiday season's batch of limited-edition bundles is pushing the
envelope when it comes to packed-in perks. While other publishers are
focusing on high-priced props to pump up preorders, Ubisoft is taking a
more tried-and-true approach for its biggest title of the season.
The
publisher today announced the Master Assassin's Edition of Assassin's
Creed II, an $80 bundle for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version of
the game that goes on sale alongside the regular version November 17.
The package will be exclusive to US GameStop stores and features an
8.5-inch-tall statue of protagonist Ezio, a hardcover art book, bonus
disc with a soundtrack and "making of" feature, and two in-game maps. One of the maps, the Palazzo Medici, was previously announced
and will serve as a bonus for all GameStop preorder customers. The
second, Santa Maria Dei Frari, will only be available as part of the
Master Assassin's Edition of the game. Though the word "maps" is
commonly used to describe multiplayer levels, an Ubisoft representative
confirmed for GameSpot that the game is single-player, adding, "More
details on how the exclusive maps work will be revealed at GamesCom."
