What we heard: In June 2006, unconfirmed reports claimed that famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg was in talks to direct a World of Warcraft movie--a gig Spider-Man director Sam Raimi would land three years later. In October 2006, another top-selling game, Halo, would see its planned film adaptation put on indefinite hold and its would-be executive producer, Lord of the Rings helmer Peter Jackson, move on to new projects.

Japanese publisher details vibrating, air-filled cushion that would let gamers use Wii Remote, Nunchuk as reins.



Nintendo's prime directive for this current console generation has been to broaden the ways in which Wii owners interact with their games. Beginning with the motion-sensing Wii Remote and Nunchuk, the Japanese company has since introduced a Balance Board, which has taken on the functionality of anything from a bathroom scale to a pair of skis, and a Vitality Sensor, which Nintendo announced at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Actor's online resume indicates Rocksteady Studios may have taken over development of new installment in IO's hired assassin franchise.



As far back as September 2007, Eidos has indicated that a new installment in IO Interactive's long-running Hitman franchise is in development. In the intervening years, Eidos has undergone significant upheaval, laying off some 25 percent of its staff in advance of being bought by Japanese publisher Square Enix. In that time, neither the publisher nor IO, its assumed developer, has said anything of the game.

Activision offering upcoming band-specific spin-off to gamers who purchase next full installment of rockin' rhythm franchise.



There's an abundance of high-profile rhythm games headed for stores this holiday season, but Activision has an offer that could be music to the ears of cash-strapped gamers. The publisher today unveiled plans to give away its upcoming Van Halen-dedicated Guitar Hero spin-off with the purchase of Guitar Hero 5.

Final Midway developer scooped up by WWE and UFC publisher; deal does not include TNA Impact! license.


Last November, media mogul Sumner Redstone's National Amusements corporation sold off an 87 percent stake in Midway Games, once valued at $30 million, for just $100,000. The low price gave Redstone a massive tax write-off and paved the way for the buyer, financier Mark Thomas, to receive a $5 million settlement following a creditor suit.
