Activision and Bizarre Creations' arcade racer arrives on Xbox 360, PS3, PC later this year; Europe gets green light November 6.



Activision Blizzard led the month with news of its mostly stellar first-quarter earnings, reporting a $195 million profit on $1.04 billion in sales for the April-June quarter. As part of that announcement, Activision Publishing president Michael Griffith mentioned during a post-earnings conference call that Bizarre Creations' all-new arcade racer Blur would pull out onto the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in November.

Government study of 552 adults 19-90 finds those who game are more like to be paunchy, have mental health issues, and get AARP invites than non-gamers.



Often, games are dismissed as a youthful pastime. However, a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found that the average US gamer doesn't even fall into the 18-34-year-old demographic advertisers and MTV programmers so highly prize. According to the study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and provided to MSNBC, the average American gamer is 35, the age when the ostensibly retirement-age organization AARP starts sending out invitation letters.

Halo 3 actor, Rome star join Saving Private Ryan's Barry Pepper on board Infinity Ward's next Call of Duty game; actor Craig Fairbrass' return may shed light on plot.



August began with reports that rapper 50 Cent had joined the voice cast of the oft-retitled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Today, Infinity Ward director of communications Robert Bowling revealed several more actors who will appear in the highly anticipated sequel, which GameStop executives are predicting could be the best-selling console game of all time.

With over 11 million subscribers, the behemoth World of Warcraft has enlisted a vast community of gamers. However, for a community as large as WOW's, it noticeably lacks a major print periodical. That will change soon, though, as the game mag publisher Future announced yesterday that the massively multiplayer online role-playing game will receive its own official quarterly exclusively for the game's myriad players.

World of Warcraft: The Magazine--a collaboration between Blizzard and Future--will allow current game subscribers to enroll in the magazine starting August 21 for a $40 one-year subscription or $70 two-year subscription in the US. Blizzard plans to showcase the publication at this weekend's BlizzCon expo in Anaheim, California.

Ubisoft gets a T-for-Teen rating on side-scrolling action game pitting players against Templars in a Renaissance setting.



Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Altair Chronicles for the DS did not fare as well with reviewers as its console and PC cousins, so it wasn't incredibly surprising when Nintendo's handheld was left off the list of systems for Assassin's Creed II. However, it appears Ubisoft has been busy making a second game in its historical hit man series for the DS after all.
